New Presiding Judge and Assistant Presiding Judge elected

Today the Bench of the Yolo Superior Court elected the Honorable David Rosenberg as the next Presiding Judge and the Honorable Kathleen M. White as the next Assistant Presiding Judge.

Judge Rosenberg was appointed to the bench on October 3, 2003. His assignments have included adult, Prop 36, felony probation and juvenile drug courts, and juvenile dependency. Judge Rosenberg currently is one of six (6) judges on the criminal team handling misdemeanors and felonies in a direct-calendar system from arraignment to resolution, including trials, and is a member of the Appellate Division of the Yolo Superior Court. Judge Rosenberg is a member of the Criminal Law Education Committee, Civil Law and Small Claims Advisory Committee, Judges Association standing Committee on Legislative Relations and a former faculty member of the California Judicial College. Prior to his appointment to the bench Judge Rosenberg was a Yolo County Supervisor for the 4th District and served as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors in 1997 and again in 2002. He was a City Council member for the City of Davis, including two terms as the Mayor.

According to Judge Rosenberg, “Major changes and challenges face the Yolo Superior Court - the retirement of a majority of our Bench, the entry and inclusion of new Judges, and the critical need for a new Courthouse.

We will meet those challenges as we continue to meet the public's need for efficient and fair justice. I look forward to working with an excellent Bench, a great courthouse staff, and our Justice partners in the years to come."

As the Presiding Judge-elect, Judge Rosenberg will appoint the Honorable Stephen L. Mock as the coordinating judge of the criminal division and the Honorable Kathleen M. White as the coordinating judge of the civil division.

Judge White was appointed to the bench on April 9, 2003. Her assignments have included felony, civil, misdemeanors, juvenile delinquency and juvenile dependency. After practicing law in Los Angeles and Yolo County, Judge White has served Yolo Superior Court since 1997 in the positions of General Counsel and Court Executive Officer and was appointed to the bench in 2003.

The Presiding Judge, with the assistance of the Court Executive Officer, is responsible for leading the court, establishing policies, allocating resources in a manner that promotes access to justice for all members of the public, increasing efficiency in court operations and enhancing service to the public. In the absence of the Presiding Judge the Assistant Presiding Judge assumes the responsibilities. The two (2) year term for both
offices will begin on January 1, 2008.
