Judicial Council visits Yolo Superior Court

Yolo Superior Court hosted a Judicial Council site visit on Friday April 4th. The Judicial Council is the policymaking body of the California courts. Under the leadership of the Chief Justice, Ronald George, the Council is responsible for ensuring consistent, independent, impartial, and accessible administration of justice. The site visit is designed to enhance communications between the superior courts and the Judicial Council.

Dave Rosenberg, Presiding Judge, Jim Perry, Court Executive Officer, presented an overview of the court's accomplishments and facility, caseload, and judicial shortfall challenges. Temporary and long-term facilities solutions were discussed to include the new courthouse which was approved in the Governor's FY 08-09 budget. A tour of all court facilities highlighting court operations gave the Council members a better understanding of issues that confront the court on a daily basis.

We are one of the busiest Courts in California," said Presiding Judge David Rosenberg. “We are so pleased to have been visited by the Judicial Council team. We asked them to help us obtain the tools we need to continue to do our work. Our number one need is a new courthouse. The present courthouse was build almost 100 years ago and we outgrew it decades ago. We operate some of our courts out of trailers. Statistics also show we are dramatically short of judicial positions and staff to handle the growing workload in this court. Our judicial officers and staff carry one of the highest workloads in the State."
