Sometimes business or personal matters make it impossible to serve on the date shown on your summons. In that case, you may ask to postpone your jury service. Follow the directions on your summons to request a postponement.
A prospective juror MAY request a one-time postponement if any of the following criteria applies:
- Medical appointment/procedure:
- Request up to 6 months if more time needed
- Need letter from doctor specifying additional time required up to one year
- College student - to next school break
- School teacher - to summer session
- Medical doctor or surgeon - up to 6 months
- Vacation - up to 6 months
- Work - up to 6 months
- Sole Proprietor - up to 6 months

Inconvenience to a prospective trial juror or an employer is not a legal reason for excusal from jury service, however you may request a postponement for this reason.
