Courthouse Security
As a matter of public safety, everyone entering the courthouse will pass through metal detection equipment. All forms of weapons, including pocketknives, scissors, pepper spray, or any other similar items are prohibited. Please leave such items at home or in your vehicle.
Failure to Respond
Jury service in not voluntary, but a civic duty imposed upon all qualified citizens. If you fail to report for jury service as instructed, you may be ordered to appear before a judge to explain the reason. If you are found in contempt of court, you may have to pay a fine, serve time in jail, or both. (CCP Section 209).
Notice to Employer
Under Labor Code Section 230 (a), “No employer shall discharge or in any manner discriminate against an employee for taking time off to serve as required by law on an inquest or trial jury, if such employee, prior to taking such time off, gives reasonable notice to the employer of the requirement to serve.”
Proof of jury service is required by some employers and will be furnished to the employee/juror upon request.
