YOU CAN NOT SERVE THE PAPERS YOURSELF. Service must be done by a person over the age of 18 years who is not a party to the case. You may contact a professional process server or the Yolo County Sheriff’s Civil Division to serve the documents. The person delivering the papers to the other party must complete a Proof of Service declaring that he or she delivered the papers to the other party. The original Proof of Service must be filed in the Civil Division in Room 103 of the Courthouse as soon as possible after service is complete and at least 10 days before the hearing. You should take a filed copy of the Proof of Service with you to the hearing.
